Description

WHAT IS OPEN MIND AFRICA?
Open Mind Africa is a non-profit organization (501(c)(3)) with a mission of helping students to develop mindset, character, and skills for academic and career success in Africa. Our outcome is not “knowledge acquisition." As open minders mature through experiential learning, their ability to communicate with themselves, others, and the world changes, not just because of what they know, but who they have become.

WHY OPEN MIND AFRICA?

Open Mind Africa was founded on a firm belief that there is a better future for Africa if we promote a quality education rooted in essential skills needed to succeed in school, career, and life.

HOW DOES OPEN MIND AFRICA WORK?

We are applying new models of learning from cutting-edge researchers towards a system that is entrenched in a century-old code. We are implementing and designing lesson plans to promote academic and social-emotional learning. We coach the students to manage their emotions better, replicate patterns of excellence found in the most successful people in the world, and develop passion and perseverance for long-term goals. Open Mind Africa is also introducing a modern form of social education where each student supports the academic success of another, to further the development of African countries, and to provide the skills and grit required for the workforce of the future.

WHAT HAVE WE ACCOMPLISHED SO FAR?

Last year we designed the first Open Mind Africa International Summer Camp in Ghana with programs that gave our students fantastic opportunities to develop essential social-emotional skills, multiple intelligences, build friendships and make memories that will last a lifetime. We invited educators and facilitators from the United States, Australia, and Ghana. Our first summer camp was an incredible success.

2018 SUMMER CAMP AND EDUCATOR SUMMIT IN GHANA

This summer will be our second year running the camp, and our numbers are growing. We are projecting to reaching 400 students by 2020, and grow exponentially from there. This year we will also have our first Educator Summit for teachers from several high schools in the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana. 2018 Educator Summit will be the first Social Emotional Learning (SEL) based educator summit in the region.

HOW ARE OUR PROGRAMS FUNDED?

Open Mind Africa is a young organization that is going through early formation stages. We are still strategizing the various aspects of our programming, and this includes a formidable fundraising campaign. Before the 2017 Summer Camp, Open Mind Africa had not been able to raise money from external sources. Our executive director – Joseph Adams, provided all the funding to cover the expenses for the camp.  Looking forward to 2018 Summer Camp and Educator Summit, we are working assiduously to seek funding from the general public, and that is why we are creating a GiveTrack campaign.
